409 ULTRA FORM® Stainless Steel
Type 409 ULTRA FORM is a proprietary grade developed by AK Steel, designed for applications requiring enhanced form-ability for complex shapes compared to conventional Type 409 stainless steel.
T409 Ultra Form is available in Hot Rolled Annealed and Pickled (HRAP) #1 and Cold Rolled 2B or 2D surface finishes. Originally developed for automotive exhaust systems, it is also widely used in industries such as non-automotive exhaust systems, trucking, power generation, heat exchangers, silencers, fuel filters, agriculture, spreaders, woodstoves, furnaces, transformers, tubing, and casket components.
Both 409 and 409 Ultra Form perform exceptionally well in high-temperature environments, offering oxidation and corrosion resistance, good form-ability, and weld-ability—all at a cost-effective price point. Available thicknesses range from .006” to .500”.
